What's it like to be old

(Finishing Line Press, 2026)

Poems offering an anatomy of the experiences of aged persons—happy and unhappy—and reflecting on aging itself. Breaking our society’s taboos about talking realistically and with feeling about old age and mortality.

BEING IN TIME AND CHANGE

Poems about the life of change, loss, and insight we experience as we voyage through our time.

Some recall earlier life and later times; others look at large periods of time, our origins and ends, and the mystery of time itself.

POLITICAL POEMS

Strong poems about the hopes and despairs of life in our society.

Dominations by some citizens of others, presidents, social conflicts, political journalism and political poetry.

Poetry speaking of our lives as citizens

SEASONS

Poems of our daily life experiencing the streaming seasons of the year, their endless torque and change.

Brilliant, threatening, frozen, dying days: beautiful, scary, soothing, painful, joyful.

The challenges capturing them in language.
